It's all been done

Over the past while I've been distracted by other programming languages and other niches that have interested me outside of the realm of programming. Because of this, I accomplished very little with respect to my original media organizing goals.

But what's more depressing than that — I'm still young and have plenty of time to truly invest in this project if I absolutely wanted to — is that the iPad was announced. And with the announcement of the iPad I saw the death of the file system. It would be a slow death, assuredly, and there would still be hobbyists and jailbreakers and the like who will retain a deep connection to the hierarchy of nodes everyone else sees as their documents folder. But I can see the writing on the wall: the iPad is the next step in making computers user-friendly. And so I don't expect much else to happen with my current project. I might become reinvigorated at some point, but right now my lofty goal — abstracting the file system away from advanced media organization while still retaining a tight bond with said file system — seems like an outdated concept. It may be that when I finally get my hands on an iPad and the initial wave of interest fades I'll find myself hankering to return to my perennial project, but until then, the dream is dead.
